How smart is a building, and how can its performance be improved? The SMARTeeSTORY project has developed an open-source SRI Calculation Web Tool that helps users assess the smart readiness of buildings and identify cost-effective improvements. A new demonstration video guides viewers through the tool's main features, from calculating a building's Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) to exploring and comparing improvement scenarios.

Assessing a Building's Smart Readiness

Following the European Commission's SRI methodology, the tool offers a user-friendly, guided interface, currently available in three languages. Users enter general information about the building, select the relevant technical domains and assess their level of smartness.

Based on this information, the tool calculates the building's baseline SRI score and generates a detailed report. This includes a five-level SRI classification, benchmarked against European building stock and smartness standards, as well as a breakdown of scores by technical domain and impact criterion. The report can also be downloaded as a PDF.

Identifying Cost-Effective Improvements

The tool goes beyond assessment by helping users identify potential improvements ranked by cost-effectiveness. Users can select specific impact areas and technical domains, while the tool proposes solutions based on their expected SRI improvement and estimated investment.

Different improvement scenarios can be created, compared and exported, allowing users to explore which smart technologies could offer the greatest benefits. Assessments can also be saved in JSON format and resumed later.
